Procedure Information

Initial Assessment Examination

To allow us to assess your eyes fully we need you to do a few things. Please bring:

  • your current glasses and any glasses/contact lens scripts you have
  • a list of your medications
  • a driver as you may have dilating drops that blur your vision for a few hours

FOR PEOPLE WHO WEAR CONTACT LENSES: CONTACT LENSES CHANGE THE SHAPE OF YOUR EYE SO YOU NEED TO ABSTAIN FROM YOUR LENSES BEFORE THE CONSULTATION

  • Soft contact lens wearers – do not wear your lenses for 2 weeks before the consultation
  • Hard contact lens wearers – do not wear your lenses for 6 weeks before the consultation

Before Surgery (pre op)

  • Contact lens wearers – abstain from wearing your lenses as above
  • Bring a carer – you will be given an oral sedative when you arrive and any necessary eyedrops will be instilled by us. There are no other special instructions or eyedrops you need to use
  • Ensure you have arranged appropriate time off work

After Surgery (post op)

  • Expect some discomfort and take oral painkillers if needed
  • Depending on the type of procedure you have your vision may be a bit blurry for a while.  This may be up to 7 days for patients having LASIK surgery and up to 4 weeks for patients having PRK surgery.  We recommend you limit your work accordingly.
  • Eyedrops will be prescribed
  • Follow up visits are on the day after surgery at iLaser, one week later at iLaser (or Forster Eye Surgery) and at one month with your routine eye carer
